Resume
The novel tells the story of a Palestinian child’s life in the 1950s. He lived through some events of the Palestinian Nakba of 1948, such as the Deir Yassin massacre carried out by Zionist armed gangs against the people of the Palestinian village. The novel speaks of Muhannad’s childhood, as well as his adolescence and his attraction to the opposite sex, represented by the neighbor’s daughter, “Aziza,” and the city girl, “Nadia.” During this time, the teenage boy becomes attached to watching films and reading novels, then, guided by his father’s and mother’s advice, realizes it is still too early to be involved with any girl, and that he must first focus on his studies to succeed at school and go to university. The novel blends reality and imagination, and describes the teenager’s impulses, aspirations, dreams, desires, and visions.
