A chance encounter in Paris brings Farida and Mazen together, two young Arabs of Palestinian roots, meeting at the Louvre Museum in the French capital. Through meetings in Paris’s lovely cafés, they discover a shared history of pain and hope that binds them through grandmothers’ stories. We come to know Grandma Layla, who left diaries and letters in a velvet box she carried with her on the day her family was displaced from Haifa in 1948, and Grandma Farida, who left Haifa in the Nakba to live, in the autumn of her life, in war-stricken Aleppo.
