He could not return again. The police were searching for him everywhere and would find him, eventually, wherever he might be. Even if he agreed to live on scraps, they would find him. What would he do now? Where could he go? He began rummaging through his belongings, counting the money in his wallet, when he found a folded scrap of paper inside one of its pockets; a note from Emily he had forgotten. Samuel stood up, knowing instantly where to go. He had to follow this name, this address written for him in the refugee camp on Gran Canaria. He had to reach Norway somehow, to Oslo. He entered the address into the GPS, just as a trial, and the map of Northern Europe appeared on the screen, with a red dot pointing to the house where Emily lived.
