Tamer Institute concluded a series of meetings with youth groups (Nakheel teams) to discuss the topic of media literacy (media education). The meetings aimed to transform the young recipients from a negative reception of information to a positive one through critical analysis of images, videos, and materials presented on various media and communication platforms.
During these meetings, the youth were exposed to a wide range of questions and examples related to the Arab and global realities. The topics covered included media education, human rights, the role of media education (media literacy), critical analysis of news, the power of images and ethical questions, elements of propaganda in films and videos, as well as examples related to the portrayal of race, national and religious identity in the media, advertisements and the commodification of women's bodies, violence in video games, and more.
This program aims to create a reference nucleus with young people that may contribute to raising awareness and creating a Renaissance among Palestinian youth regarding social problems and how the media addresses them. The Arab world is in dire need of developing critical thinking towards the media.
